I.  Who are we ?
The Convergence Association was founded by various cultural organizations within the Vietnamese community in Europe at the CIARUS Centre (Strasbourg, France) in October 1995.
The Convergence Association is a non-profit society organised exclusively for cultural, educational, and social purposes. It aims at:
1)      Promoting the integration of Vietnamese immigrants into European society without losing their cultural identity.
2)      Developing a mutual understanding between Vietnamese Europeans and native Europeans of their cultural heritages through publications, conference, seminars, and workshops on Vietnamese and European cultures.
The Schiltigheim Tribunal recognized the Association as a registered non-profit organisation (Tribunal d’Instance de Schiltigheim, Volume XXXII, No 1701, 31 October 2000. Association Centre Culturel Convergence, Centre Nguyên -Truong -Tô).
 
II.  Objectives
-         To promote the awareness and appreciation of Vietnamese culture in Europe
-         To improve the relationships between Vietnamese and other ethnic groups
-         To help Vietnamese young people and newcomers become acculturated, responsible, and productive citizens
-         To increase contacts and academic exchange between students, teachers, and researchers in the field of Vietnamese studies in Europe and other countries
-         To establish a cultural and educational organization named On-line University of Humanities.
 
 III. Services
1)      Activities from October 1995 to August 2003:
·        Editions DINH HUONG: 52 books on Vietnamese culture
·        DINH HUONG Quarterly: 36 issues
·        Annual Summer University: Sessions 1 and 2 (August 1996 and August 1997) in Orsonnens (Switzerland); Sessions 3, 4 and 5 (August 1998, August 1999, August 2001) in Nancy (France), Session 6 (July 2002) in Oslo (Norway), Session 7 (August 2003) in Violau (Germany). Each session convened about 90 students plus 10 organisers and 15 teachers.
·        Symposia on Social Issues
- Session 1 on Traditional Culture, in Orsonnens, July 1997
- Session 2 on Human Rights, in Nancy, August 1998
- Session 3 on Family, in Nancy, August 2001
- Session 4 on Family, in Oslo, July 2002
- Session 5 on VN Communities, in Violau, August 2003
The Symposia hosted several Vietnamese religious leaders, community leaders, and scholars in Europe and other countries. The number of participants ranged from 70 to 80 each year.
·        Newsletter NHAN VAN: is an internal newsletter for the members of the Nguyên -Truong -Tô Centre.
 
2)      Projects for five coming years
·        Continuation of the five aforementioned projects (Editions DINH HUONG, DINH HUONG Quarterly, Summer University, Annual Symposium, Newsletter NHAN VAN).
·        Innovation of the current projects:
- Editions DINH HUONG: publishing bilingual works of Vietnamese and European scholars in Vietnamese and European languages.
- DINH HUONG Quarterly: adding articles written in European languages.
- Summer University and Annual Social Symposium: organizing in different European countries.
- NHAN VAN newsletter: publishing in bilingual format.
·          Establishment of a Humanities University On The Internet.
This E-University format could attract scholars and artists specialized in various fields of study related to Vietnamese culture, and provide easy access to worldwide students. It also serves as a connection between various cultural and educational organisations in Europe and other countries.
·        Organisation of art performance events: (paintings and music) in various European cities.
